2024. R. 113 mins. Directed by Peter Farrelly Three childhood best friends; Dean (Zac Efron), JT (Andrew Santino) and Wes (Jermaine Fowler) pull a prank on Halloween that doesn't go as planned. To get out of trouble they create an imaginary kid named Ricky Stanicky that takes the fall for their wrongdoings. Over the next twenty years, the boys use Ricky as a scapegoat anytime they do something wrong or want to get out of something. When their families want to invite Ricky to a party the guys must figure out whether to tell the truth or do something drastic. Transformers: Rise of the Beasts | Review

2023. PG-13. 127 mins. Directed by Steven Caple Jr. Here we go again, it's another Transformers movie! This series has seen many ups and downs throughout the years. Age of Extinction and The Last Knight are certainly the downs while the first Transformers in the series as well as the excellent Bumblebee make up the highs of the series. Rise of the Beasts manages to be one of the better entries, however that isn't saying much as the of the series has mostly fallen flat. Taking place in 1994, a new faction of Transformers called the Maximals, join forces with the Autobots to help save the world from a new foe. Along for the ride are Noah (Anthony Ramos) and Elena (Dominique Fishback), two humans that lend their hand to help save mankind. Story-wise this isn't too different than what we've seen in essentially every other Transformers movie. 2023. PG-13. 105 mins. Directed by Nia DaCosta In 2019, Captain Marvel came on to the scene in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Her solo movie gave audiences her backstory and introduced the character to a new generation of fans. Since her solo movie Captain Marvel has made a few appearances in other projects. She had a brief but somewhat memorable outing in Avengers: Endgame, then showed up for cameos in both Shang-Chi and the finale of Ms. Marvel. Now, Captain Marvel is teaming up with Monica Rambeau and Ms. Marvel to take on a new villain in The Marvels. The Marvels follows Carol Danvers (Brie Larson) as she sets off on a new mission. While on her mission she ends up having her powers entangled with her old friend Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris) and teenage fangirl Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani). Frozen Empire takes the franchise back to the firehouse in New York City as we follow the Spengler clan taking part in their new roles as Ghostbusters. A mysterious artifact is brought out for the first time in almost 100 years, and it contains a new threat that could possibly cause a new ice age. With the help of some friends and the original Ghostbusters, our heroes will stop at nothing to take down this new evil. First and foremost, it is great to have this cast back together. Ghostbusters: Afterlife set up a great family dynamic and it continues here in Frozen Empire. Adding in the character of Gary (Paul Rudd) as more of stepdad this time around adds even more to the dynamic. The biggest highlight of the movie is the cast of characters. Everyone from the OG cast to the newer crew, all put in great performances, and they play off of one another quite well. From start to finish,

2023. R. 97 mins. Directed by Tim Story Parodies can be a hard genre to make worthwhile. Sometimes it can be difficult to take something that a lot of people enjoy and poke fun at it, but also make it clever enough to make an impact. We usually see one or two a year and the ones that stand out are too few and far between. The horror genre seems to be the best genre to take a stab at (no pun intended) when it comes to trying to parody a genre. Movies like Cabin in the Woods as well as Tucker and Dale vs. Evil do a great job at taking the typical tropes from horror movies and making fun of them in a clever way. The Blackening is the latest release to try something new and put its own spin on many common stereotypes in horror movies. Director Tim Story and company attempt to poke fun at the stereotypes involving black characters in horror movies and it makes for what is easily one of the funniest movies of the year.
